European Parliament Marks YIVO’s Centennial

On September 26, 2025, the European Union Parliament marked YIVO’s 100th Anniversary with a symposium hosted by Lithuanian Member of the European Parliament Liudas Mažylis. The program was followed by a reception hosted by Lithuania’s Permanent Representative to the EU, Ambassador Nerijus Aleksiejūnas. YIVO Executive Director Jonathan Brent spoke at both events, highlighting YIVO’s rich history and its dynamic future.

Conference Celebrating YIVO Centennial Held in Lithuania

From October 19-21, 2025, Vilnius University and the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania hosted the conference “YIVO in Vilnius and Around the World,” marking the centennial anniversary of the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research that was founded in Vilna (now Vilnius) in 1925. In recognition of this milestone, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania has declared 2025 the Year of YIVO’s Centennial. The conference featured presentations by scholars from Lithuania, Poland, the United States, Argentina, Germany, and Israel. Jonathan Brent, YIVO’s Executive Director & CEO, delivered an important lecture at the event—YIVO’s Commitment to the Future: New York, Vilnius, And Beyond.
